In the spirit of collaboration and for the love of craft beer, three local breweries and San Diego Magazine partnered on a new collection for its “Best of San Diego” issue. This Hoppy Pils was brewed and canned by Eppig Brewing. Dry-hopped with Simcoe, this light-bodied lager is crisp and dry, bursting with a bright, hoppy aroma. Also try the IPA by Coronado Brewing Company and Sour Ale by Fall Brewing Company. Drink responsibly.

Pours a nearly clear amber color with a pile of fine-grained foam in the IPA glass. Aromatic with pine and a hint of peach. Dry hopped with Simcoe. It's maybe a little more hoppy than it needs to be, and the aftertaste is lingering with astringency.
Flavors of fruit and corn with a medium sweetness. Malty body and a bitter finish. It's like a spicy Blonde Ale on the tongue. However, overall this is a very drinkable and pleasant, flavorful Pilsner. From the 16 oz can purchased at Barons Market.

Snuck over to Eppig for this release. I actually thought this was a different beer (I had given their Hoppy Pils a 4.25, but that one was dry-hopped with Amarillo and Citra. This one was dry-hopped with Simcoe. Back of the can read, “In the spirit of collaboration and for the love of craft beer, three local breweries and San Diego Magazine partnered on a new collection for its “Best of San Diego” issue. Probably didn’t need to buy a 4-pack, but here we are.
Poured a medium yellow clear color with 3-to-4 fingers of rocky off-white head. Lots of fast moving bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass at different speeds. Excellent uneven foamy lacing. Perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled pilsner malt, black pepper, light Simcoe, grapefruit zest, herbal, hay, grass, pine and hints of lemon. More Simcoe coming through from the can. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted a little better than the nose. Got pilsner malt, herbal, dry grass, hay, black pepper, light Simcoe, grapefruit zest, lemon and pine. (Taste - 4.00)
Light body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Clean, crisp, but spicy finish. So drinkable. (Feel - 4.50)
This was outstanding overall. Not sure I needed to buy a 4-pack for $16, but still solid. (Overall - 4.00)
