Clean, crisp and balanced, perfect for patio drinking! Less malty than a marzen, more complex than a Pilsner.

A bit more of a dark gold than other festbiers I’ve had. Flavorful with a little hop bite. Nicely done.

Pint at their waterfront location in Point Loma. Tasty, easy drinking version of the style. But hard to find a better view and setting to drink a beer like this. Just doesn’t seem to be consumable in mass quantity.

16 oz can into a weizen glass
Copper-tan color, clear, forms a small, wispy head on an easy pour. Nose is full of floral aspects, honeyed malts, orange zest. Crisp and hoppy on the palate, piny and citrusy. Medium mouthfeel and throws back easy. You can tell a West Coast US brewer concocted this, but it’s tasty nonetheless.

Glass: Gordon Biersch .5L Stein
Price: $2.99
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Oct. 3, 2020
Consumed: Oct. 4, 2020
Misc.: Could not read the canned on date
Grabbed a can of this and bunch of other stuff from Windmill Farms. Had this twice before, giving a taster on Untappd a 3.75 on Dec. 29, 2016 and a 4.00 on Oct. 11, 2019. Back of the can read, “Clean, crisp and balanced, perfect for patio drinking! Less malty than a marzen, more complex than a Pilsner.”
Poured an amber clear color with two fingers of frothy off-white head. Lots of fast moving bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Bad watery lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled baked brown bread, sweet grain, toasty malts, toasted biscuit and graham cracker. More earthy malt out of the can. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted about as good as the nose. In order got toasted malts, bitter wood, baked brown bread, toasted biscuit, graham cracker and Honey Nut Cheerios. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Clean, crisp finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This was an outstanding beer for the style. Glad I snagged a can. (Taste - 4.00)

Clear rich yellow color with plenty of foam in the Leute Bokbier glass. Quite malty but just slightly sweet. Grain flavors with a touch of resiny hops. Some modest bitterness but the aftertaste is straight malty and beery. Plenty of spritz with a substantial mouthfeel.
Bready taste with the persistent cereal note. Overall a better than average Oktoberfest type of brew. Quite drinkable for a pleasant quaff. From the 32 oz crowler can purchased at the Shelter Island tasting room. Good place for social distancing outdoors and breeze off the bay.
