355 mL can from the LCBO; dated Sep 25 2023 and served slightly chilled.
Pours clear straw yellow, capped with less than a finger of loose, soapy white head that fizzles within a minute or two. It flings several strands of stringy lace about in its wake, with a frothy collar and filmy cap living on - looks fine to me. It smells of white tortillas, grainy pale malts and corn flakes, with suggestions of grain husk and grassy, herbal hops.
It tastes alright - corny cereal sweetness is the first sensation, with flavours of grainy, bready pale malts also coming through. Faintly grassy, herbal hops bring up the rear, with corn flakes and graininess dissipating into a slightly malty-sweet aftertaste that fades after a moment or two. Light in body, with assertive carbonation and a crisp mouthfeel that agitates the palate continuously. Easy to drink quickly - no reason to take your time with this one, it's a very basic craft lager.
Final Grade: 3.43, a B-. Keets Lager is ok - not exactly effusive praise, but at the end of the day it's nothing more than a half decent craft lager. A little corny, which is not a dealbreaker for this style, but it's *so* plain and forgettable, with nothing to distinguish itself from the reams of comparable lagers out there. I don't dislike this beer, but I'm hesitant to give it a serious recommendation... I suppose if you're in the London area and just need a lager to pair with some fried food, you could do worse.
