Appearance: Pouring with a single finger of head that vanished almost immediately, thus no lace. The body is a pale orange that shows fairly steady carbonation. I don't usually see an orange this pale, but given the ABV, I am going to let things slide a bit here.
Smell: I am definetely getting rye notes, reminicient of whisky of the same name, and it's certainly the star here. However, that's all I am getting, which for a 2.3% offering is quite potent, but given that peice of knowledge, I can't really expect this to be a boquet for the nose.
Taste: Mild spicy rye to start with maybe the faintest peach note that falls aside as the rye builds in potency but with a bit of a dry straw and a seltzer note before an earthy hop end.
Mouthfeel: The aftertaste is a bit too dry for my tastes, and is a even mix of the straw, rye and hops which I don't think works out the best, because it's so dry. Transisitioning is a build up to the dry end which isn't bad. Carbonation is alright.
Drinkability: Something this light should not be this dry, as it's just not refreshing to drink, even though it is interesting. Light bodied and settles down well, which is a good thing.
Final Thoughts: So the low ABV on this is throwing me off here. Do I review it more like a light beer, do I review it more like a full Roggenbier? Well, I guess I go back to when would I drink this? The answer here is when I want to sip on something, but not drink a meal and wanted to keep the boozing to a minimum. That's a pretty specific set of circumstances where I'd be looking for an extended sipper. I dunno, this one just wasn't for me.
