a clean and bright and distinctive saison that seems right on for spring. one of the more refined and professionally done beers i have had from these guys so far too, drinkable and delicious, nothing weird happening on the ferment at all, which is not their norm. this has good liveliness to it even though the head doesnt last long, and is simple looking, pale and generic in the glass. the aroma and flavor are cohesive and interesting, slight white wine character from the yeast, rustic but tidy too, nothing funky and importantly for them, nothing sour about it at all. the hops are herbal and tropical at the same time, not over dry hopped like a lot of them are, not made modern in that way. they have a southern hemisphere vibe, even specifically south african perhaps, really unique profile, but also a little noble grassiness and finishing bitterness underneath it, the best of both worlds! its wheaty but simple on the grain side, earthy, which sets up the juicy hops well. minerals are in here, a slate sort of thing, cold and clean, and there is an almost lagered crispness to this, cool for the style. very delicate and fresh overall, and just an excellent take on the style, perfect for spring. among the best beers i have had to date from toasted barrel!
