Pint at Valley Brewing Company in Stockton for four dollars, this saison has muscat grapes and grape juice from a local winery added during fermentation, consumed 8/8/08, reviewed from notes
A-Golden orange and yellow color, 3/4 inch creamy white head, stuck around for a couple minutes, decent retention, some nice lacing
S-Grapes even though they were mild, caramel malt, sweetness, bread, various spices, and grains
T-Taste was slightly tart at first, then sweet due to the malt, the finish had a small amount of spice in it, beer got slightly more funky as it warmed and the grapes came to the surface more than before, liked the fruit character in this one and gave what probably would have been an average farmhouse ale that extra touch
M-Thin to medium bodied, sweet, tart, and slightly warming mouthfeel, nice level of carbonation, taste lingered nicely
D-Could have drank numerous pints of this, light on the stomach, grape flavor was not overpowering, smooth and sessionable
This was my favorite beer from my two visits here during the week I was up north, it was also a hit when somebody brought a growler down to a tasting in San Diego the week before, this beer actually won a gold medal at a county fair somewhere in Northern California, would love to drink again even though it is not likely, recommended
