It is a truly oddly labeled saison from a brewery that has a few saisons that I haven’t tried. The darkness, alcohol content and hoppiness are more than one would expect of the category, just as the name gives no hint of what to expect. The first impression was of a distinctly Belgian strong dark ale. On further reflection, a little funk and mixed malts come through, revealing the accuracy of the general farmhouse categorization, but not saison specifically. The aromatic hops still predominate, making this a complex enjoyable drink.

Deep russet brown, a little cloudy, decent tan head, retention and lace aren't so great
Combination of fruitiness- cherry and plum from the dark malts or sugar, green banana and red apple from the yeast. A little bit of pepper/clove spice aroma as well.
Much more spicy on the palate. The blend of fruitiness is joined by toasty, bready malt and a bit of caramel
A little heavy for a saison, and could use more carbonation
Interesting saison for the winter.
