esb, quality bitter, good to see this style from an american brewery, i pretty much order these when i see them, all too infrequently these days, these guys had a great beer list when we were in this time. this is pretty basic, nutty with a honey note, a little bready, definitely english on the grain side, subtle on the ferment but also appropriate for the style, also bready, nothing crazy here, real muted on the hops, balanced beer, faintly raisin-like, and with just a bit of back end astringency as it warms. the aroma is somewhat minimal compared to the flavor, but the difference is in intensity and not in character, the grain is richer than just the typical maris otter type to me, a bit more of the crystal depth, toasted but not too sweet to me, short of caramelized, a little fig or date in the mix. medium bodied, well carbonated, nice flow, more yeasty as it warms which adds some old world authenticity to this, light astringency is less out of place here than it is in some of their other beers with a similar thing going on. i love english beer, and this is a fine take, cool to see it on their menu!
