i loved the 2023, im not sure this is quite at that level, the subtle rose and strawberry character, as well as the ferment of that one made it quite dynamic, but this is really good too, awesome packaging, and sick to receive this as a gift from a beer friend, so good to have beer friends! this year the beer is also aged in zinfandel barrels, but instead of pinot noir like the 2023, its petite sirah grapes its fermented with, which give it a richer almost ruby red color, pretty clear through most of the bottle, jewel tone and sparkling, bubbly but not holding much head, very active on the palate though. the nose here is a little newish on the brett side, less funky and mature than it could be, but its got a ton of oak and vinous character, is low acidity to me, too, and has hints of red raspberry and tangy red currant, even lemon, some earthiness too, light to me on the grain side of things, lightly cheesy on the ferment, some saison yeast character too, subtle pear and lemon-like esters. the flavor is really grape forward which i love, jammy and sweet up front, with rich berry and red cherry saturation, some tannins, and a little twang from the ferment, but also some of that cereal dust and some weirdness from it, not quite come into its own yet, maybe some cellar time would help it along, seems almost underdone, and there is a little residual sugar here too. white wine as much as red to me somehow, some real cool woodiness all the way through it, decent body but its not malty in any appreciable way, effervescent feeling, subtle strawberry, pepper, and sweat on the back end, really intriguing. i liked the 2023 a little more, but this is a series im into at this point, cant wait to see what they come out with next year! stunning in the clear glass bottle!
