On tap at the brewer's gastro-pub at LA Union Station's perhaps-to-be-famous-again Fred Harvey Room.
A difficult style for a new brewer to do well, Saison Sojourner nonetheless is one that that this oyster restaurant has to have to pair with its dozen different oysters.
Saison Sojourner starts out Looking good. Many of the aromas are fruit trees, albeit milder than a great saison. But in the Taste, the hops were relied on too much to pair well with this subtle food. The finish was acceptably dry and refreshing... since I wasn't eating oysters.
However, I give Sojourner an OA hug for trying to climb the saison mountain. (My advice: work on the yeast, a common difficulty unless the brewer specializes in Belgians.) I also give big OA points for the ambience in a great room in a great train station.
