Perfect for a chilly night, Mad Mad Moon delves deep into rich dessert flavors. Brewed with British Pale Malts, Oat Malt and Flaked Oats, a smooth, creamy body lays the base for this beer. Vanilla, Cinnamon and Molasses are added in the fermenter to instill an almost cookie like sweetness. Mad Mad Moon will be the perfect nightcap.

Since I added this beer (part of a mixed six from The Beer Temple), I should defend my choice of style.
This is soft like an English Oatmeal Stout, but it has the alcohol content of an American Stout (but they also can use heaps of hops which Mad, Mad Moon does not use.)
First, I like the can; the artwork of a whimsical, though slightly mad man (or woman) in the moon.
Looks for the stout are not so good, really average (no foam).
Smells are interesting: the malty, vanilla, molasses things go well together.
Tastes are about the same; the bitterness comes more from roasting and less from hops. If this is 8.5% ABV (and it doesn't seem like that much), it is very well-concealed.
Feel is fine, soft and smooth and no off-tastes finishing (which is an accomplishment.)
My first from Lake Zurich, so I went on their site and see that they just opened their taproom. Good for them. They have a "great outdoors" line of the standards (APA, etc) and just started this Beltrane line. Mad Mad Moon is recommended, but so many beers and so little time.
