not at all what i expected here from the tap, was thinking it might be tart and funky and bottled and corked if packaged, not clean and french type and canned, but its tasty once i settle in. amazing clarity from the tap, perfect shine and no haze or sediment in the least, holds an inch and a half or so of white head of a minute but it fades out rather quickly. the aroma here is somewhat minimal at first, minerals and a slightly estery yeast, belgian notes, banana and pear fruitiness to it, short of gum or candy, but its high tone, stands out in front of the nelson hops this is made with. the flavor is more subtle than the nose on the yeast side, nothing funky or wild or rustic about it at all though, just some fruity esters on the finish, very dry and clean, but unexciting, especially for these guys. the nelson has some melon and botanical character, but is also kind of mellow, not even obviously nelson to my senses, and seems grounded some by a richer malt profile, more than just pale wheat in here for sure i reckon. a light toasted thing from the grain and some middle palate sweetness. the flavors work well together, even if this is pretty understated and ends up slightly bitter from the hops, almost a yeasty pale ale in some ways. its good beer, well refined, but different than anticipated. still, i am so happy to have so many offerings around from these guys, i look forward to each new one i encounter, and i think they do everything very well!
