lots of cool collaborations coming out from these guys lately, this one with double mountain, two heavy hitters in the northwest, this had to be good and of course it is. i think a more compelling grisette than their petite belle, more refined, still not overly interesting on the ferment, but thats okay, this is hoppy and modern and light, delicious for summer and a neat take on the style. its clear through most of the can, extremely clear even, very light sunny yellow with a tall two inches of white wispy head, belgian looking, nice lace too, just sparkling, with a little more sediment at the bottom but it doesnt cloud this up much. the nose shows some noble type hops more front and center than i have come to expect in the style, and a pale but interesting grist, european pils, pale wheat, maybe some amount of rye, it has a mellow earthy spicy complexion thats also there in the flavor and some starchiness too, very sort of organic and agricultural, but also very light at the same time. the yeast seems to me to be samey, slightly disappointing i always want these to be bretty and funky and unique, this is estery and french saison type to me, white winey and with a little peach and soap note to it, right with the rest of the ingredients here, but definitely not the part of this that has be excited either. the hops have quite a bit of bitterness to them for a delicate beer like this and they settle in mid palate and last through the finish, a nice northwest touch on this interpretation of the style, great balance overall though, as drinkable and refreshing as any blonde ale or yellow beer anyone makes for summer, so bubbly and dry and airy in feel, but with a ton more character than most of those sorts of things, i think this is a cool offering for this time of year, a neat collaboration that has yielded a relatively unique grisette even without anything thrilling in the fermentation profile. really nicely done.
