All hail Elizabeth, the emperor of our production facility in the Bronx. Notice how regal and noble he is. One of his eyes doesn't work and it's mostly closed. With this barleywine we pay our respects to the King. This barleywine isn’t quite an English style or an American one. British kilned malts add a toffee note while American hops add a touch of fruitiness to a richly layered and decadent beer.

Canned in 2021. Dark amber color with no head.
Delicious and original at first aroma with notes of caramel, oranges, flowers, some resin, cranberries and figs. Then malt and faint alcohol dominates it.
Flavor with notes of pine, malt complexity, toffee, resin, some cranberry, figs jam, prunes and rum. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Medium to full body with mild carbonation of tiny bubbles. Alcohol of 11.4% is well hidden.
Very pleasant American Barleywine with good malt complexity and an American accent given by its hops.

On draught at the brewery taproom. A full-strength but surprisingly approachable barley wine. Toffee and rum & raisin in abundance. Heaps of alcohol too but not overbearing. Dangerous fun!

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice dark brown with almost no head. Nose is full of toffee, malts, candy, bread, figs, and cinnamon. The taste is very nice. Toffee, chocolate, hops, bread, malts, figs, prunes, and a floral note. Really nice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and the alcohol is slightly detectable. Overall, very nice.

LOVE the label. Long may he reign!
As advertised, this has both English and American attributes. Nutty, charred toffee plus fruity notes of apple, cherry, and raisin. Finishes witb muted pine and citrus. Hints of mulling spices as well. This comes together well.

Pours a cloudy dark caramel and brown color and shows slow moving carbonation. A modest layer of head mostly dissipates, yet retains a wisp of creamy film and lacing.
The nose is sweet with notes of biscuit, caramel, honey, holiday spices, fruit and alcohol. Aromas of raisins, cranberry, red grape, apple, peach, allspice, hints of pine sap and a touch of nutty/roasty malts.
Opens rich and biscuity with notes of toffee, caramel, honey and roasty hints of dark chocolate. Sweet alcohol spice throughout, yet not to boozy. Becomes vinous, like a full bodied, fruity wine; notes of raisins, grapes, currants berries. Developing hops flavors impart fruity notes of orchard fruit, citrus, pine and a lightly resiny bitterness.
Full bodied with a smooth, nearly creamy, mouthfeel. The finish is smooth with some dryness and a resiny linger. The carbonation is gentle.
One of the more drinkable barleywines in recent memory. I would have again.

A: The beer is hazy dark amber brown in color. It poured with a short beige head that left a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of alcohol are present in the nose along with notes of caramel and toffee.
T: The taste is dominated by flavors of caramel and toffee malts, but there are only hints of alcohol. No hop flavors are detectable, but there are enough hops to mask any malty sweetness and also contribute a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels full-bodied on the palate and has a low to moderate amount of carbonation. The alcohol lends some warmth to the finish.
O: This barleywine drinks quite well considering its strength and does a very good job at masking the alcohol from the taste.
Serving type: can

Can from Vinyl Beer on the UES NYC. Pours a very dark opaque amber burnt caramel, two fingers of fluffy light tan head, nice lacing, smell is chewy dark caramel, toffee, prunes, soft candied dates, rum cake, hints of banana bread and molasses, taste is burnt caramel, when cold there is a vegetal/woody bitterness, maybe some smoke and a bit of soy sauce but that all mellows as it warms into pomegranate juice, dark toffee/rum cake, and mild burnt toast, feel is medium bodied, soft carbonation. A gritty dark and mysterious NYC barleywine.
