This sounds like such an inviting combination I had to try it. Handsome coppery orange color with plenty of foam in the glass. Smell is in the campfire realm, but not encouraging. Moderate smokiness but dishwater flavor. The rye is evident but it's just bitter rather than grainy. The aftertaste has something like plastic. It seems like the smoke and the rye are conspiring to get more and more bitter in tandem. And who know how old this stuff is with the lack of a date. From the 12 oz can purchased at a grocery store in Long Island, Wash.

picked up at Ben's Bottle Shop in Vancouver, WA
12oz can poured into a Level Belgian-style tulip
first experience with Headless Mumby..
P deep orange w/ a slight chill haze; small off-white head; quick recession
N bold; huge smokiness pairs with slightly sweet zingy rye notes; pleasant
T follows nose w/ a bold smokiness, offset by an underlying malty sweetness; nicely contrasted flavors; tasty
MF med to med-full bodied and well carbonated; lightly creamy
O a nicely done, unique lager; I dig it; would happily revisit

Poured from 12oz can into a dimpled mug.
Appearance: rich amber-orange hue with a crystal-clear body and a finger of frothy light-tan foam atop. Pretty!
Smell: nicely caramelly malt aroma with a little hint of nuttiness and a yeasty lager character. The smoke is present, but certainly not overwhelming. I rather like it.
Taste: caramelly, nutty, bitter enough to seem dry though it doesn't lack for sweetness. The smoke is a nice accompaniment to the flavor; it's balanced, and tasty.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess. Really nice!
Overall: a drinkable and tasty smoked lager. I wouldn't say any obviously rye character jumps out at me, but if it's what's adding the subtle sweet nuttiness, then I think it's being used well. Good stuff!

12oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. No date. Bought it at Bottleworks last weekend.
Pours a dark amber color, clear, with a medium sized head and a pretty substantial amount of carbonation. Smell is quite noticeably camp-fiery.
Taste is more smoked than rye, I'm not sure I can recognize anything really "rye" about it. Something sweet underlying the smoke. Smoke is the dominant flavor, but it's not overpowering. If you wanted to session a rauchbier, this might be a good candidate, because I don't think it would get super overwhelming.
Mouthfeel is light and clean. Overall, it's a pretty good beer.

12oz can thanks to snaotheus in NBS BIF #15
Bright clear like new shinny penny, head fades too quick little to no lacing
Smell touch of smoke but not overpowering I did not get much spice for the Rye
Taste could not place it but the combo of the Rye and smoke was hard for me to place.
It was fun to taste and enjoy, but this would not be the daily rotation

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium to dark coppery amber with a one finger off-white head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of lager malt, smoke grain and a touch of hops and rye. Flavor is lager and rye malt, moderate smoke and light tartness from the rye; light grassy hops. Medium bodied with light creaminess. This is my third smoked beer in a month and I'm glad to see a few of this rare style around as well as more rye beers. The base rye lager is pretty basic, with a traditional lager flavor and feel, with some rye grain character and mild tartness. The smoke is mild to moderate, which is appropriate for this light to midrange lager. A nice change of pace and well done for an unusual combination of smoked grain and rye.

Crowler fill straight from the brewery in Oly. Brilliant copper color, very clear, not much head. Mild aroma portends only a hint of rauchbier. Flavor however is rich and dripping with woodsmoke and warm malty goodness. It also seems to be very low in hops, with bitterness coming primarily from rye.
Rye and smoke are both very pronounced flavors which can tire the palate. This beer seems to provide an outstanding balance that makes it outright sessionable. Well done HM.
