500ml bottle with Silver wax. I think that the Wizard on this label is perhaps Gandolf from LOTR. Anyways... poured into Duvel Tulip because a beer like this needs a curvy Belgian beer glass to do this beer justice and also to fit the 500ml into the entire glass because I am solo doming this one.
Appearance: 1 full finger of dark brown thick cap of head. Body of this stout looks to be motor oil thick. Onyx black body. The head fades to no head over a shortish period of time. Heavy booze legs noted with each sip. Glass is stained with the menacing darkness of this beer. It just plain looks "sticky thick".
Smell: The rye whiskey barrel comes off this stout so perfectly. Chocolate and fruity cherry notes as well.
Taste: Big chocolate bomb with a hint of caramel; it has more richness than sweetness. This is still a sweet stout, but man is it ever rich in the barrel and base beer. Smooth rye whiskey spice right away. Oak char & light smoke & leather with a distinct note of boozy chocolate covered cordials. This finishes dry with a building dark chocolate and the perfect amount of rye.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied Stout with low carbonation. It's motor oil. No doubt. It's so smooth. Thick and creamy. Not boozy at all.
Overall: This is just excellent barrel juice. Everyone praises Dimensional for the barrel aged adjunct beers, but the straight barrel aged beers are equally stunning if not better in many instances. Just massive barrel flavor that slaps you in the face for attention. Really excellent.
