355 mL can, day 18 of the 2022 Toronto Brewing beer advent calendar; no canning date and served slightly chilled.
Pours a fairly clear pale yellow colour, kicking up nearly a finger of loose, soapy white head. Within two minutes or so, it has been reduced to a sudsy collar and thin film, with a small amount of lace also having been flung about. Subtle, clean aroma of grains, hay and grassy hops, with a faint wisp of citrus peel.
It's a damn good lager, chock full of high quality malt goodness, answered by a decidedly noble hop profile. I'm tasting grain husk, fresh bread and cereal sweetness, with hints of grassy, herbal hops bringing up the rear. Mildly floral, with hints of cereal and grass lingering into an aftertaste that dries partially. Light in body, with moderate carbonation that feels just right, adding crispness to this lager's smooth, satisfying mouthfeel. Way too drinkable - I've said this about a few of the offerings in this advent calendar, but 355 mL is simply not enough.
Final Grade: 3.99, a worthy B+. Sonnen Hill's Lager Beer is a very good lager beer, indeed - in fact, I think it might be one of the best craft lagers I've had in well over a year. That's partly because pilsners are my favourite type of lager, and this drinks a lot like a German pils IMO. It does have more of that cereal sweetness that I associate with North American lagers vs. pilsners, but now I'm just over-analyzing a beer that doesn't need to be. Well worth trying if you're a lager lover.

Like it says on the tin. A simple American-style lager brewed with pilsner malt and classic German noble hops. You could probably classify this as a German pilsner if you were so inclined. It's cool to see a small local micro-brewery taking on some of these classic, uncomplicated styles rather than IPAs and the like.
