Overstory Rye Reserve is an American style imperial stout aged in Woodinville Whiskey Co. Rye Whiskey barrels.
Each barrel has a uniue character due to natural differences in wood, different char levels, and the varieties of spirits that were previously matured inside.
For this release, we blended imperial stout aged in three different Rye Whiskey Barrels.
Rich note of spice and oak comingle with the intense and full-bodied stout, resulting in a finished, barrel-aged stout that is smooth on the palate, but exploding with flavor.

2025 vintage. Poured into a Fremont small snifter. 2025 vintage. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a thin khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, molasses, woody oak and light vanilla. Flavor is dark toasted malt, rye whisky, milk chocolate, dry caramel, unidentifiable dark fruit and vanilla extract. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A fine barreled stout with a complex flavor profile; it seems to exhibit the spiciness of rye whisky without particularly tasting like it. The expected chocolate, vanilla and light woodiness are present and well integrated. This was hard to parse for flavors, but is great tasting and obviously influenced by rye barreling. Very nicely done and interesting. This will be a definite buy every year they barrel it.

12oz can served in a little Georgetown sample glass. Canned November 2024.
Pours black, light brown on the thinnest parts of the edges, medium sized head that shrinks to a uniform, dense ring. Smell is rye spice. chocolate and anise, something almost pepperminty about it.
Taste is rich, chocolate, light spice, coffee and chicory, toffee and nuts and raisins. Hint of charcoal.
Mouthfeel is rich, smooth, velvety. Overall, this is really nice.
