Bottled on 6/1/2020; consumed on 7/10/2022
Pours a deep, translucent burnt orange body capped with a finger and a half of rich, fluffy, off-white foam; solid head retention yields a sliver of frothy cap along with a minor, creamy collar and a moderate spatter of firm, soapy webs of lacing spread across the walls of the glass.
Aromas of cheesy funk meld to oak-forward white wine as peppery rye grain turns musty; a waxy, fresh barnyard note is a flowing undercurrent to pink grapefruit and a brightly herbal, rose hip bittering.
Taste opens to pink lemonade cut with rye spice and a vague oak prickle; rose oil accents a subtle grapefruit twang over the mid-palate, while dry white wine intertwines with juicy elderflower and lemon on the back end, leaving a floral lingering into a brighter funk on the finish.
Mouthfeel offers a light-medium body and a subtle, rounded spritz of moderate carbonation; taut textures form with a somewhat oily sheen as a level, higher-end acidity meets an overarching juicy character past the mid-palate, levying mild tartness to a semi-wet finish.
A swell of funk washes vivid barnyard subtext through a predominant earthy twang, leaving floral zest of elderflower delivering a brightness peaking beyond the mustier funk; refreshing, complete, and effectively wild in expression.
