German-style pilsner. A perfect end-of-the-day beer, our Pilsner is crisp, classic, and focused. This brew features bright flashes of fruit and spice supported by a graceful malt profile. A nimble bitterness arrives fashionably late, snapping the palate to attention and inviting another sip. Simple, but timeless.

473 mL can from the LCBO; no packaging date and served slightly chilled. Not the first time I've had this one, as I've already enjoyed a dozen or so tallboys over the last several months.
Pours a relatively clear pale golden colour, topped with two fingers of puffy, foamy white head that falls off steadily. A few minutes later, I'm left with a frothy collar and thin cap; looks good, with an attractive swath of serpentine lace clinging to the glass. Grainy pale malts, freshly baked bread and crackers on the nose, in addition to spicy, herbal hops.
Tasty stuff, though the spicy hop profile might not be everyone's cup of tea - still, I love it. The malt and hop bills are both quite robust, the former supplying a rich, grainy malt backbone with whole grain bread sweetness that lasts for the duration of the sip. Spicy noble hops assert themselves on the back end; there are leafy, herbal elements there too, but the peppery spiciness is what stands out to me. Dry aftertaste. Light in body, with fairly aggressive carbonation that stays crisp and prickly right down to the last couple of gulps.
Final Grade: 3.99, a very high B+. Avling's Classic Pilsner is a fantastic lager that I will continue to purchase for as long as it remains available in my neck of the woods. It seems to be angling for the North German style of pilsner, i.e. drier, spicier and more bitter than your average pils. Along the lines of Jever, although maybe a bit cleaner-tasting and less brash - as a fan of Jever (who has not been able to find it locally for a few years now), this Classic Pilsner is a friggin' godsend. Anyone who has ever enjoyed a pilsner should consider this worth a try.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From the Huron Church Rd. LCBO in nearby Windsor. My fifth beer from the Toronto, Ontario brewery, and third for 2025. No date stamp or lot number. With Gracie the cat...

Pours lots of foam. Classic beer color. A little hoppy floral aroma to the beer.
Taste is pretty good honestly. A little hoppy floral bitterness. Easy to drink beer. I'd get it again although I've had better pilsners before. If you like pilsners then you should probably like this beer.

Poured a 473ml can into a Pilsner glass. A bid, fluffy white head on a slightly hazy pale gold. Excellent head retention. It sticks around to the end. Sheets of fine lacing.
Smells of spicy herbal malts. Lots of grain smells. Tastes of bready malts up front. Sweet. A very long spicy hop finish.
A light body and good carbonation. Overall a top quality Pilsner. Well worth a try.
