Back just in time for Summer, it's Guera! Crisp, light and perfect for this warm muggy weather. Pours bright & yellow with a fluffy white head.

Appearance: Poured with a thumb of head that retained well enough but didn't produce any lace. The body is a pale yellow with ample, active carbonation.
Smell: A bit weak here, even after warming but not exactly uncommon for the style (that being a Mexican style lager) what I do get is some grain and a touch of earth.
Taste: Starts with a bit of rougher grain that turns to a bit of a skunky moss like note before earthy hops clean things out. I mean, it's not unpleasant but it's nothing to write home about.
Mouthfeel: That skunky note feels out of place, and while it never builds to potency, it throws the experience off. The carbonation is good, and the transistioning is ok, but it's not a long path so much as an odd one.
Drinkability: My experience is Mexican Lager comes in two kinds. Absurdly thin and light, or a closer to medium grainy affair. This beer is stuck in the unfortunate middle, and doesn't quite hit either note. It's still refreshing and easy enough to drink but it's missing something to take it over the hump.
Final Thoughts: So true to the style, after this review I added a squeeze of lime to his beer and it improved dramatically. It doesn't factor into the review, but that skunky bit seems to fall in step behind the acid of the lime and the slight bitterness of lime seems to have a rounding effect on this beer. Simply put, this beer requires lime and if it was a factor I'd bump up the just about everything but the appearance up by 0.25. That said, I've never added lime to any of my other reviews so, this is what it is.
