Picked this up late last year at Source, as I loved the idea behind this beer. Can’t say that I ever had a Saison quite like this, as it felt Brazilian-inspired and not quite fully European in style!
Lovely, brown sugar hue to this as it had a lively tan head that unevenly settled. Big and small bubbles filled it as they popped at different times, with a bit of lacing remaining after each sip that was also complementary to the liquid. Brown sugar, banana, and plum filled the nose as the taste was quite dark and full-flavored. Caramel, sarsaparilla, currant, and dark cherry emerged as this warmed as they went along with an overt alcoholic presence that never let up. Complex and nuanced, there weren’t any hops that stood out as they weren’t needed here by a long shot!
Lightly carbonated, moderately slick, and a bit exotic, this drew me in from the get-go and never held back. Canned on 12/12 of last year with something written underneath it that I couldn’t understand, this was a fun beer that was on par with its label. Indeed, this Saison was super!
