This would be my first time having a Harland beer, let alone reviewing one. I had stayed away simply for the fact that the owner used to be involved with Saint Archer. I loved Saint Archer and they sold to MillerCoors and I haven’t had one of their beers in years. Anyway, from what I’ve heard from others and read, this place will not be like Saint Archer. I guess I might as well drink as much as I can from them in case they sell because then I would be out. Anyway, this is a collab with Artifex. Untappd description read, “Created with our Friends at Artifex brewing in San Clemente, This beer was brewed using heirloom raw spring rye, and dry hopped heavily with our favorite Nelson and Southern Cross from New Zealand.” I believe Alpine’s original Nelson was brewed with Nelson and Southern Cross. Was looking forward to it though.
Poured a golden murky color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy off-white head. Excellent spotty lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled Nelson, passion fruit, apricot, peach, melon, spoiled orange, pine needles, lime and lemon zest. Not as familiar with Southern Cross as I should be, but I think it is balancing the Nelson out here. Much of the same from the can. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted better than the nose, but followed it for the most part. In order got Nelson, passion fruit, peach, melon, apricot, bitter tangerine rind, pine needles, lime, lemon and black peppery spice. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Long, juicy finish. (Feel - 4.00)
Very good for a hazy beer. (Overall - 3.75)
