Once a year, at harvest time, we head down to the hop farms and pick up freshly harvested hops from our friends at Goschie Farms. These hops are still wet and whole and are added to our beer within a couple of hours, bringing out unique characteristics not found in beer any other time of the year.
2024: Hallertau hops.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a two finger white head that dissipates to a persistent thick cap. Aroma of pale biscuit malt, grassy, spicy and lightly floral hops, whole grains, floral hay and vague summer herbs. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Apparently, Oregon hops were ready a while before Washington and appropriately, my fire fresh hop is from Portland. Interestingly, it's an English style which is nice because most fresh hops I've had have been domestic pale ales; I can't remember having tasted fresh noble hops before. The biscuity base malt has a solid English ale profile. The hops this year are Hallertau and have the expected spicy and floral character along with noble hops grassiiness. Nice herbal hop notes and a treat to try this single hop that is not common in the Northwest. Great start to the season. I think the Washington flood is about to start. Can't wait.

Light straw color, gold hued, soapy white head, no much retention or lacing but never devoid of some white on top, clear but not crystal clear.

Nose is vibrant and bright hop notes, fresh hallertau…lends a very woodsy spice character for me in this beer, with some light grass and herbal notes as well, light hint of pale malt sweetness.

The taste leans into the woodiness, comes off as almost oaky to me with more earthy notes though, some light grain character and a soft malt backbone; almost scone like to me.

Mouthfeel is light and super drinkable, clean clean beer, hop resins are noticeable with a medium bitterness, soft and smooth and carbonation.

Another highly drinkable fresh hop pale ale, I liked this one a lot. Had a slightly more complex malt presence, and the fresh hallertau were unique.

Canned 8/24.

A crystal clear straw yellow with a dense, white head with good retention and lacing. The nose is most dominated by the English pale malt and the yeasty fermentation character, but behind that is a really gorgeous and subtle fresh hop character, with delicate straw, earth and fresh lemon rind. The hop expression is truly sublime, calling to mind the exceptional Braumeister pils from Victory. This is replicated on the palate, where a clean, delicately snappy hop profile pairs quite will with the English base malt. Drying, delicately doughy finish. Lovely.

16oz can served in a snulip. Can is dated 08/24/2023. Bought it at Chuck's Hop Shop yesterday.

Pours a brassy gold with a large, two finger head that settles into a thick, lumpy skin with a heavy ring. Smell is lemon and clover, some honeysuckle and a hint of bread yeast.

Taste is lemon and honeysuckle with a leafy overtone, clear fresh hop character, moderate piney / earthy bitterness.

Mouthfeel is light, smooth, clean. Overall, very nice English pale and pretty solid fresh hop.

Can is dated 09-10-25. Pretty similar impression as 2023, maybe a bit more positive. Very nice.
