16 oz can, Pkg on 06/05/19.
Straw colored with brilliant clarity. Large, frothy white head that eventually settles to peaks and valleys on top of the beer, leaving behind a good amount of lacing. Very inviting. A stunning lager in its appearance!
Fresh grains, biscuit, and herbs in the aroma. A hint of lemon in there too.
I don't get much corn coming through in the flavor, but I'm okay with that. It has more of a peppery - almost rye - spice to it. Very herbaceous. If German Pils and American Adjunct Lager had a baby, this might be what it tastes like.
It has a ton of malt and hop character/flavor and I really like how dry it finishes. If there is one knock on the beer, it's that the spice is a little heavy handed which detracts from its drinkability. Medium-light bodied.
I missed the first year of the Landscape series but I'm glad I got on board. The concept behind the beer is excellent (brewed exclusively with New York State grown ingredients, the artwork of a local artist on the can, donating portions of the proceeds to non-profit organizations, etc.). You can tell a lot of thought and time was put into this beer. The overall drinking experience is very high here.

An 'historical lager' should adhere to two principles: one, firmly, that the ingredients be hyper-local; and, two, spiritually, that the more modern example pay homage to the flavor of the ancient while adhering to principles of provincialism. Manifesto fini.
I'm digging the nouveau Noble hops, which are piney, spicy, and a citrusy clementine. Definitely more corncentic than rye or oat although the latter (oat) is huge locally, and the formal, historically. Regardless, clear, crisp, and great by today's lager standards.

A: The beer is clear light yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high bright white head.
S: Light to moderate aromas of herbal and woody hop elements are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has notes of fennel-like herbs and cedar-like oak with a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and slightly clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This lager is very easy to drink and the hop varieties lend interesting aromas and flavors, which mask any traces of the underlying corn in the malt bill.
Serving type: can

2019 edition
Beautiful, clear white gold with four fingers of thick white lather atop. Take a picture.
Some husky grain notes joined by grassy hops in a full strength aroma, with hint of lemon, and touch of spice. As it warms what must be corn aroma comes in.
Taste is a nice mix of that husky grain, light bready notes, and corn sweet as a key player. The sweet is restrained, well balanced with the grassy hop notes. At just the point tart yeast comes in to the mix, spicy hops take over the sip and join pithy lemon to close this baby out dry. Simple mix of flavors that play well together.
It is just on the "good" side of watery and this gives it a super refreshing, soft character. Spritzy carb, Spicy finish that stays clean. Good backbone for the flavor profile
Excellent beer, def. different than your usual fare, and that itself is a point in favor. Though it uses modern hops the spicy character of them tastes traditional, so it succeeds in that "historical" feel. Recommended, go get some.

Canned on 6/5/2019. Poured into an Industrial Arts' pint glass. It pours a slightly hazy, golden straw color with greenish hues. Myriad tiny bubbles ascend the glass. The foamy, milk-white head dissipated slowly. The nose has a nice balance of corn, lemon peel, lager yeast, and floral spices. It has a much better smell than a typical AAL. Similarly, the taste is far more robust and complex. The spiciness is strong up front, along with tart, slightly bitter, lemon peel. At first, I tasted little corn malt but it slowly emerged as the beer breathed in the glass. It finishes with a strong dose of spicy bitterness. The taste is miles beyond a typical AAL. The feel is as lite, crisp, and clean as you're likely to encounter. It features lively carbonation, and with an ABV of 5% it's built for summertime drinking. I don't drink much lager these days but this one is maybe the best I've ever had. Like all the Landscape series, it's lovingly and skillfully made. I'll assuredly be drinking a lot of this fine lager this summer.
