The British ESB (Extra Special Bitter) is a staple in the pub culture in England. A traditional style, The Colonies has a nice malt backbone that balances well with earthy, herbal, and slightly fruity English hops. This beer is about putting our differences from 1776 and 1812 behind us, and hoisting pints with your mates.

Had on tap. Clear brown body with a light tan head. Sweet back, slight toffee and fruit esters meet herbal hops in the nose. Taste is pretty similar but the finish is not as crisp as you would hope, but good balance of malt and kiss of hop. Feel is light bodied with malt textures abounding. Solid work here

Good representation of an ESB, copper in look and flavor, perhaps a little too sweet.

Had this beer on tap at Monk's Pub. This was my first beer from Midwest Coast Brewing and it was really good. Obviously this is not one of those hop bombs. This is a well made very balanced beer with a nice strong malt backbone and just enough hop flavor to let you know they're there. After drinking hazys all summer this was a nice change of pace.

Had on tap at The Beer Temple.
For a brewery that has not even had its Grand Opening yet, this is a subtle and sophisticated ESB.

Looks like the classics, clear amber with a nice foam that sticks around gently. Smells mild; mostly of sweet malt. Tastes totally balanced with the hops offering up a pleasant semi-dry finish. Medium mouth with minimal bubbles... like traditionalists like me like.

I am looking forward to Midwest opening and their website developing further.
