Perceived Distance is a collaboration with friends from about as far away as they can live and hops from about as close as they can be grown.
We teamed up with Carl from Great Leap Brewing in Beijing and Nunzino from Hop Head Farms in Michigan to brew this saison with hops that were harvested less than 48 hours before we used them. We used a purposefully restrained hand and the gentlest extraction method we know in an effort to capture the unique character of freshly picked hops and delicately fold that character in the esters from our house yeast. The result is a striking integration of crushed cardamom, nutmeg, coriander, and pink peppercorn with fresh orange and grapefruit zest and a wisp of cedar

Very light gold with some sediment floating. Head was very white, creamy receded quickly but was replaced by the generous carb release from the "D" cut into the bottom of the Duvel tulip.
Aromas were faint except for the bit of brett funk.
Flavors complex - definitely grape and citrus - incredibly bright, hop juicy and refreshing.
This is a champagne of beer.

I had this on draft 4/10/24 @ the Hopleaf.
Mostly see-through yellow/orange appearance.
Nice off-white head; nice lacing remained.
Peach, lime & pink peppercorn notes in the nose.
Thin mouthfeel.
Peach, ginger & mild lime flavors up front; faint wood notes on the finish.
Complex but VERY drinkable; this would be heaven on a hot summer day. Well done.

Pours a pale clear yellow color. It is so pale it almost lacks any color. Thin white head forms on the beer, lingers a moment, then dissipates. Aroma has notes of fresh hops, spicy herbal notes, some light pepper, and some light lemon rind and zest. Fresh hop saison is exactly how this one comes across on the nose with those hops coming through beautifully painted on the saison canvass.
Taste follows the nose with notes of light fleeting citrus, lemon zest, and lemongrass. Spicy herbal hop notes with some light grassiness and a touch of pepper. Feel is light, crisp, and refreshing. Bright carbonation. Semi-dry finish. Overall its a lovely saison.

Clear, active straw body with a huge white foam head. Getting cardamom, coriander, green tea, musty beligan yeast, apple esters and dry dirt, a new take that keeps the classic saison alive, bravo. Taste is more new age with fruity yet dry apple, orange, yuzu melding into the cardamom and coriander, before the bready yeast, earthy hops, and a dry pear finish. Very light on the palate: good complexity, low intensity. Stay relatively dry after initial surge. I really think is/was has some real potential in the chicagoland saison game

Now my third from Is/Was, I see a pattern: they know how to brew, so they only need to use modest Brett.
I got a really bubbly welcome from Perceived Distance and it persisted even after the foam receded. Smells were mostly fruit (citrus and hard, say, apples) and only a little funk. Tastes were balanced by a modest, subtle use of hops. There was a medley of other spices in there, reminiscent of a wit. Refreshing in the mouth, bubbly yet soft. Drank alongside pizza, cleared the palate. It was eaten outside with four others; all sorts of social distancing. And all agreed that Perceived Distance helped make the meal.
Curiously, Perceived Distance was brewed last year. In addition to knowing how to brew, is Is/Was clairvoyant ?
Continuing my outlook to sample their saisons.
