It’s not often we let hops take center stage. We love hops, they are integral to our beers but usually as part of the choir rather than the soloist. This beer is a little different, a spotlight on the way Nelson Sauvin hops play with our distinct saison yeast character. There are notes of white grapes, mango lassi, lychee, honeydew, and pistachio-nuttiness. It is bone dry but with a tautly structured body and delightful finish that leans ever so slightly bitter.

I had this on draft 7/24/24 @ the Beer Temple.
Cloudy bright orange/yellow appearance.
Small white head; strong lacing remained.
Mild lemon & dry grass notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Mild lemon & dry grass flavors.
Simple, dry & enjoyable. Hot day bliss.

Oh well... I entered the name incorrectly. It is "Sauv" as in Nelson Sauvin hops... with probably a play on the French "sauvage." Sorry.
As for my review, I'm going to defer mostly to the Is/Was label copy. I particularly like how they describe hops as part of the choir typically in their ales. (I wish more brewers brewed with that principle.) My nose and palate doesn't differentiate all the fruits listed by Is/Was, but my imagination probably agrees. Refreshing. But also suitable with appetizers.
By far, Is/Was holds my record for nanos whose ales I've tried (now 21.) Their practice of offering both a regular saison and a Brett-conditioned rendition allows me (being Brett-shy) a little wiggle room. My only drawback with Is/Was is their price which mitigates against repeats which probably keeps them from growing from a nano to a micro. Just a thought.
