Bought from the Drink Factory in the heart of saison country.
This brewpub has just 2700+ Unique Check-ins on Untappd; giving it a startup track record. As near as I can tell from St. Lazare's website (there is no English translation), they wanted to start in 2015; but the exact date is unclear. It is just really hard to do a micro-review when all I can do is look at pretty pictures. So I won't; but I'll give St. Lazare good Overall Hugs for the pretty site and trying.
As for Saison 065, it is hoppier than it needs to be for a table ale. The brewpub claims there are only 30 IBU, possibly but the blend needs to moderated more than the IBU number. 065 Looks normal and almost has a gorgeous foam on the first pour, but gets way less pretty (too murky) on the second pour. But its Smells have a healthy fruity/malty balance with some hops in the back of my nose. Tastes are not balanced; too hoppy as noted to help a meal. Almost medium-mouthed.
I'm concerned that many young saison makers I've tried this week have amped up the hops, possibly hoping they are the next Dupont to penetrate the U.S. market. Just remember... the saison is supposed to complement the food; not steal the show.
