Could it be that NEIPAs are returning to their roots of being the moderated IPA?
American micros have been cultivating this intense hop-fad for a quarter of a century. I always felt the NEIPA found its niche among those palates who were tired of being slathered in hops. Then a few years after the style's introduction, more and more NEIPAs got the hop-forward bug. And before long, I longed for the good old days of a moderated bitterness in the finish. I shied away from NEIPAs for several years and only recently have ventured back slowly because I was noticing their finish often was fruitier than their hop-laden fad in the 2010s.
So it seems with Kaleidoscope. While it opens with an average foam, its Smells are an interesting tropical melange with probably apples in its base aroma. Tastes are balanced, a modest tang in the finish. Medium-mouthed. Good with appetisers. Parliament seems a solid micro and I seek more from them.
