a clean kveik yeast saison (give it a rest already!), brewed with blood orange and cranberry, a neat combination of ingredients, and i like the fruit in this a lot, its festive like a christmas cranberry salad or something, definitely wintery even though its pretty light overall, and i like the tang and light acidity the fruits contribute to the beer, which would be simple and even boring without these additions. its simple wheat malt, maybe a little fuller bodied, but the flavor is a little flat. the kveik yeast has just become way too popular in the saison styles all of a sudden, its the new belgian blend, the clean american saisons that all have the same fermentation profile, and im not even sure i prefer this to that. i see this yeast better in conjunction with others, a french strain, some brett, whatever, but on its own, done warm like this, the esters always have a sort of rotting fruit and detergent vibe, and its a turnoff when it warms up even a little bit. the fruit saves this for me, but it also adds some sweetness to a style i generally prefer to be dry, and i am not wild about the fermentation profile at all. a good idea with the fruit, but this would be a better beer with a different yeast strain.
