Creatures of Infinite Contradiction is an 8.7% barrel-aged saison refermented with Cabernet Franc and Merlot must from Washington State. This Lambrusco-esque beer brings the funk—prominent aromas of earth and dusty beets, macerated blackberries and overripe strawberries with background notes of black pepper, floral rose, and vanilla oak. The palate features more dark fruit character—currant, plum skin, and cranberry, with subtle notes of orange zest. Medium in body with moderate acidity and a light tannic grip. This beer is quite effervescent and finishes bone dry with a concrete-like minerality. Overall this wine-beer hybrid beverage is complex and super drinkable—it has evolved a ton in the bottle since it was packaged, and I imagine it will continue to do so for some time.
A note from KT Artist Jessica Deahl @jdeahl — "This label is centered around a vintage photograph of unidentified dancers (1911) from the Library of Congress archives. We were drawn to this gestural, fluid, and free moment caught on film. The photo is layered on top of deep wine hues and textural hand lettering. A celebration of life and the unyielding mystery of time now gone."

500ml bottle poured into a Rastal Harmony glass branded with the Supermoon "white ghost" logo.
Appearance: Purple bodied Saison with a purple / pinkish tinged off white head. Head stacks up to three fingers tall. Drops down to a thin cap.
Smell: Red grapes, light oak, and dusty / dry earth funkiness.
Taste: Fruit forward Saison with very light tartness; Mostly tasting the red grapes, but you do get some cherries & berries as well. Dry oak funk. Black pepper and orange peel. Tannic notes are there as well. Getting some earthy Brett vibes as well.
Mouthfeel: Lighter bodied beer than expected; on the higher end of light bodied Saison, but not quite a medium bodied Saison. Prickly carbonation. Dry finish. Yet a little bit of juiciness from the grape flavors.
Overall: This actually reminds me of a lighter version of Cantillion Saint Lamvinous with a lighter than lambic beer profile. This was a pretty delicious barrel aged fruit Saison.

my favorite style right now, the wine/beer hybrid, and this is a mighty good one, huge fruit to it with the big deep jammy cabernet franc and merlot, nice selections for this, although im sure a whole range of grapes would all work, these seem especially suited to this. deep and sexy purple color, it looks more like wine than beer in the glass, epic color saturation and a short pink stained head on it from the tap. the nose is tannic and woody, sweet and fruity with blackberry, black currant, and huckleberry depth amidst the obvious wine notes, rich and earthy too, beets, prunes, and raisin. all of this comes through in the flavor, and the wine grapes really bring a lot to the table here, but even with all the fruitiness, its the ferment that stands out the most to me, which was a theme across the handful of keeping together beers i got to drink in close proximity to one another. the funk is higher than the acidity, but there is some tannic grape skin tang here, farmy and with both saison and fully spontaneous yeast elements to me, not all that sour, lots and lots of oak softening this. plenty of body from the fruit, not a lot of malt to this to me, a rawness and simplicity there though, minerals underneath it, hints of leather, dark chocolate, and walnut in here too, almost a port wine vibe, but its blackberry i taste the most with the grapes. this has all the carbonation it needs, i like its bold fruitiness, slower pace, fermentation complexity, and overall refinement. just a little alcohol warmth on the back end fits in well too. overall super impressive, keeping together has my full attention now, hard not to be blown away by this, exactly the kind of beer i love to drink right now. totally class.

Dark garnet nearing purple, the liquid is crystal clear and striking.
The nose is fantastic, exuding a more floral bouquet of sweeter, almost jammy grapes, with the finest layer of funk and perhaps even a touch of butter.
Aside from off-white to mauve head that quickly fizzles out, this is more like wine than beer on the palate, made so not just from the grapes but even moreso from the barrel, which contributes some dark oak and black pepper threads. Tannin rich and vinous, a merlot-like booze warms the ears, amplified by a nearly verdant bitterness.
The medium-light body is fairly slick but crisps up before a semi-dry finish.

Pours a deep ruby with a half-finger of head that ends up with a ring of foam clinging to the glass. Plum, brett funk, grape juice, lavender on the nose. Extremely dry on the palate, with cranberry and additional flavors that call to mind a dusty library. Muted on the front palate, almost as if it was dilute, before the dam bursts open.

Draft sample at Half Acre Balmoral. Dark sanguine ruby tone, frothy pinkish purple foam that lingers. Really beautiful color. Aroma has some crisp lactic acidity and red fruit, cranberry, blackberry, raspberry, and red grapes. Taste is tart and fruit forward, cranberry and blackberry fruit leather, light tannins in the dry finish. Effervescent and spritzy. Really fruit forward, reminds me of a natural wine with Cab Franc grapes, it has plenty of depth. Saving a few bottles for the Spring.
