HARK! THE VIENNA MAN COMETH!
Last year, we had the Late Start Brewing crew up to whip up the first iteration of “Color Me a Vienna Man”, but we loved it too much to not make some tweaks and bring it on back for y’all!
“Color Me a Viennaman” started off with a base of 100% Riverbend Malt. Comprised of Vienna, Malted and Golden Oats, and Munich malts, it was then gently kissed with classic American-grown Mt. Hood hops. We definitely hit it with a mix of approaches from both breweries, and laid it down to rest in one of our Lager Tanks for maximum clarity and crispness. Waves of rich malt character make way for a medium-bodied wall of nutty, toasted wheat bread slathered in honey, a forest trail laden with morning dew, and just a touch of spicy hop presence on the finish. Definitely less malty, and a touch lower in ABV than the last batch, but in an imminently more crushable and balanced way.
We couldn’t be happier with the reboot and subtle tweaks of this beer! Come snag some cans to celebrate the birth of our newest Lager, and one of our all-time favorite styles! Did we mention that we also love the Late Start crew?!

2022 release. Undated can, within 7 days of buying at the brewery. Sam Adams glass.
A: pours a slightly chill-hazed golden orange with a finger of bright white head that dissipates to spotty islands. Relatively little carbonation visible. No lacing to speak of.
S: sweet, fruity bread. Faint raisin/tootsie-roll character, but it is very subtle, not like a bock or barleywine. Slight, but noticeable herbal, green hops arrive right at the same time as the sweetness, holding it in check.
T: lightly sweet arrival, like toasted wheat bread with a touch of honey. Sweetness builds as it transitions to the end, then turns to that green, herbal, almost noble hop kind of finish.
M: the mouthfeel of this is the absolute star of the show. Rich, frothy, mouth-filling. Lighter end of midweight, but super attenuated and finishes as clean as can be. Perhaps even a touch astringent.
O: this is beer at its finest. It is not complex or challenging. You want that, go elsewhere. This is beer meant to be enjoyed with food and friends. However, it is subtle enough to reward the discerning palate with myriad subtleties. A more refined and subtle take on the style, with a distinctly American sensibility.

Dark amber body, clear with vibrant carbonation; okay head, about one-finger thick yet lasting. Rich caramel scent, not much else. Medium toasted and caramel flavor presence; mild hop bitterness noted. Medium body with nice residual sugar feel; mild warmth.
A decent Vienna lager but nothing very memorable over all.

16oz can served in a SIP Fest snulip. Canned on 05/15/2020.
Pours a dark brownish amber with a small head. Smell is very mild, biscuit/yeast and toffee. Tea.
Taste is rich -- moderate sweetness, lots of barley and toffee, something is providing some kind of a bite. Almost a roast bitterness, but not quite there.
Mouthfeel is light, effervescent. Overall, this is really tasty.
