355 mL can from the LCBO; coded E2521 (May 25 2021) and served barely chilled. Referred to as a 'baby saison' on the can, while most of the online marketing copy I found calls it a 'grisette'. I suppose they're pretty much the same thing.

Pours a hazy, translucent pale yellow colour, producing one finger of soapy, foamy white head that settles off within a couple of minutes. It leaves behind a tight collar and a few wisps of film on the surface, but little in the way of lace. It smells of mildly spicy Belgian yeast and wheaty grains, with hints of bubble gum, apple skin, stone fruit. white grape, coriander and grassy hops. Subtle but nuanced aroma - I like it.

A nice little grisette - hints of apple, citrus peel and apricot at the forefront, with gritty, grainy pale malts and wheaty sweetness not far behind. Light yeast character towards the finish, including spicy clove and coriander, with suggestions of bubble gum and grassy, herbal hop bitterness preceding a spicy, relatively dry aftertaste. Light in body, with moderately assertive carbonation that feels crisp and prickly on the tongue. Very refreshing, and exceptionally drinkable given the low abv.

Final Grade: 3.78, an acceptable B+. True History's Canary Rose is rather bare bones as far as farmhouse ales go, but it does have the right set of flavours/aromas for the style, and I certainly can't say I didn't enjoy my glass. This'd be a great, thirst-quenching option for a summer afternoon spent outside in the sweltering heat - at least, when I'm not in the mood for a lager or a radler. Worth a try, and something I'll likely be returning to over the next couple of months.
