On cask at the taproom in mug
A little cloudy, medium copper in color. Thick white head. Bready aroma with woody hops. Similar taste, with bitter finish. Smooth feel.

14 oz. cask pour on draught at the brewery. Served in a dimpled mug. It's a pretty pour: rosy-amber in color with almost a finger of thick, ecru cap and soapy lacing. It smells like nutty brown bread smeared with caramel. The taste is absolutely spot-on for the style with caramel/toffee, nutty, earthy malt, a hint of fruity esters, and mild, clean bitterness throughout. The flavors blend beautifully and it reminds me very much of bitters I've had in pubs in England, which isn't surprising since the brewer used classic English malts, hops, and yeast. Its mouth feel is creamy and lite and at 4.3% ABV it's super quaffable. Overall, Extra Stockton Bitter is a fantastic example of the style. I haven't had a better American-brewed ESB.

Top notch flavors from fresh ingredients crafted with care and attention. I get mild bitterness on the initial sips of Extra Stockton Bitter, which is on point. The cask delivery gives the beer an added quaff and body that enhances the flavors of the maltiness. There’s an extremely balanced and welcome sweetness on the finish of the beer.

32 oz crowler. Opened 72 hours after purchase.
Medium amber with brilliant clarity. Creamy, white head, average sized but with good retention. Not much lacing left behind.
The aroma is fantastic. A little biscuit, a little caramel, some lightly toasted malt, and a hint of nuttiness. Earthy hops round everything out. Perfectly balanced flavor between mildly sweet malt and bitter hops. Medium bodied, soft, clean, and smooth. Despite the low alcohol content, it never comes close to feeling or tasting thin; a true sign of the brewer's skill and attention to detail here.
This is my second beer from Odd Bird (the first being a Kölsch) and they knocked both of them out of the park. I'm beyond impressed. I can only imagine how good this beer is on cask at the brewery. Hopefully once COVID madness is over I'll be able to try it first-hand. Until then, I may need to make a return visit for some more crowlers sooner rather than later.
