Mixed culture Grisette brewed with a base of wheat, both malted and unmalted, and NY-State Pilsner malt. The grisette’s roots come from the Hainaut province of Belgium where it was originally brewed as a light, refreshing beer to quench the thirst of the province’s miners. Low in alcohol and high in drinkability this wheat-heavy offering is the offspring of one of our favorite styles of beer: saison. We took a traditional grisette malt-bill, fermented it in stainless with our house farmhouse blend, then transferred it to one of our American oak foeders for an extended maturation period. The addition of brettanomyces and its lengthy residency in oak add layers of nuanced complexity to the refreshing nature of the style.

I was superstoked to find this beer pop up on Reno, NV shelves. Then I was kind of let down upon drinking the four pack.
Pours a clear golden color also into that chemistry pint glass. Thin 1/4" white head on top. Looks like any old beer, I thought there would be some wheat haze to this one. The aroma didn't really have that wheat going for it, just seemed lost, give me the wheat and hay feel of a saison/grisette please. Didn't have off aroma, just didn't have the traditional hallmark ya know?
The taste, hey oh, plenty of grain notes. But the mouthfeel, this is a pretty bitter grisette/saison with unexpected twang t it. Light oak woodiness to it alongside a hint of lemon. Thicker mouthfeel, heavier than desired. I dunno, I guess I'm the downward deviation on this one. Seemed like it was missing the deft touch, heavier bitterness, body, seemed like an imperial pilsner from the mouthfeel. Different sum of the parts with the tartness, bitterness and heft coming together.

Excellent Grisette: lemony, crisp, and refreshing. Drowned Lands continues to brew first- rate craft beers.

A: The beer is very hazy light yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down and left a patch of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of lemon and funk are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of wheat along with hints of oaky vanilla and bits of lemon and funk.
M: It feels a bit more than light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is exceptionally easy to drink and has delicate complexities from the oak and brett.
Serving type: can

NO can date
Pours a large fizzy head with lower retention, almost soda fizz, no lacing, mostly clear slight hazy light golden tan color
Nose brings nice farmhouse funk, barnyard Brett and general funk, grainy gristy wheat and malt under that, a little cereal, light lemony tartness and lemongrass, floral spices
Taste starts with more funk up front, Brett and farmhouse yeast funk, barnyard like but not crazy, some floral peppery phenol spices and fruity ester notes, into more lemon notes, light citrus zest, lemongrass and general grassy hay into wheat and cereal grain, a bit of a yeasty note late, light herbal floral hop notes, dry but mild flemmy finish
Mouth is med bod, med-higher frothy carb, some tart flemmy acidity
Overall a nice funky saison-like farmhouse beer, grisette works but wish the grainy malt was a bit higher for the grisette, but still quite nice with the Brett and general funk, tartness, a nice beer in general

Poured from an undated 16 oz. can into the test glass. Served at 48 deg.
A - Lovely golden straw color, very little carbonation, a quick to exit thin cap left no calling card. Nary a ring of evidence during the experience.
S - Mixed culture nose, a bit of citrus, lemon verbena, orange peel, with a bit of honey
T - Those aromatics with a nice peppery grain thread mixed in, but really not much else
M - A bit flabby, if this had excited carbonation that would be game changing, Sweet/tart on the palate, with an abrupt finish. Linger is largely Esters, with some pepper.
O - Such potential with this one, a bit of fine tuning, increased carbonation first and foremost. would really help
