(12 oz can, no date/code; purchased cold single at Pinocchio's last Saturday... poured at 54 F into stange-y Raspy glass)
L: pretty dark brown liquid, black in the glass, with chestnut highlights; tight, lumpy foam, head retention weak... a few sawblade slashes of lace; steady collar
S: Irish dry stout, quite roasty... perhaps a faint, almost apple cider vinegar fruity nose along the edges... glass of Kolsch used as an ashtray?
T: relatively malty in the middle, surrounded by roasty-bitter noise... kind of dry stout-like, but the sort of candy-crystal glazing of the malt core has it more in line with a sessionable Belgian stout perhaps?... its robust roasty bite kind of contradicts the Belgian pondering... quite dry in the aft, with some slight ashy and acrid noise front of palate... lovely for what it is, but it's by far the worst Kolsch I've ever tasted
F: tingly, smoky acidity simmering upon the taste buds, the feeling of smoke permeating the entire palate... aside from its bitter bite, its body is taut, cut high, with a delicate core roundness that shoots by, disappearing before the finish
O: trying to draw a parallel to a Kolsch, and maybe only the yeast esters, as buried as they are, could be a link?... calling this a Kolsch is a little silly though - it's closer to an American stout or an English porter; just bad branding... all in all, a decent swill (2496)

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of roasted malts, some grains. Taste is the same as the aroma, easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.
