Grodziskie aka 100% Smoked Polish Style Wheat Beer, brewed with 100% white oak smoked red wheat from Sugar Creek Malt Co. We then added Polish Marynka & Lublin hops and fermented / lagered on our house Kölsch yeast.

Bought from Orkenoy's cafe on 10/9 in the midst of a bike-ride on the 606. Django has only 8 check-ins on UnTappd.
With all the smoked wheat (I believe 100%) in Django, I imagine it as a Polish wit... without the orange and coriander.
I may have had only one other Grodzikie in my life... and it also may have been from Orkenoy.

That said, Django has lousy Looks... but Smells great, a fresh clean smoke. Tastes are balanced, not too much smoke as Orkenoy has done at least twice in the 14 uniques I've had of theirs. Finally, a light mouth (3.8 ABV) is good for enjoying a meal as I age. Those elders of monastic orders knew what they were doing.

I should have drunk Django fresher (3 weeks is long for un-pasteuriized, unfiltered beers.) But I waited until I could prep some smoked mozzarella ravioli in the freezer. With a pesto sauce, the pairing was worth the wait.

All said, not a great beer... but a good experience and I continue to enjoy them from Orkenoy who is melding their kitchen and brewery better.

Hazy pale pastel yellow with more of a slight cloudiness than opaque haze. Two fingers of foam recede to a thin broken surface skim after the first few sips. Sticky meringue lacing all around.

Pleasant sweet oak smoke in the aroma, rich and woody, almost porcine in nature. Soft and approachable, not aggressive by any means.

Taste has a very mild tartness that balances the soft smoky wheat flavor, light bitterness from the Polish noble hops in the finish, very mildly resiny. Soft and smooth feel, very light carb level, not overly astringent. Quenching due to the light body and low ABV, though it doesn’t sacrifice flavor. Well balanced, and one of their more successful beers.

Overall this was a hit for me, and I cracked the second can immediately after. An excellent example of a Grodziskie, for those who can appreciate one. Now if they would just price their beer competitively, i’d buy this over other locals. Dovetail is half the price and equally high quality.
