Appearance: Poured with two fingers of head that retained incredibly well and produced a solid amount of lace. The body is translucent brown that shows solid carbonation. Only thing that stops it from a perfect is a bit more lace.

Smell: Light caramel malt with a strong dry almost clay like note. Potency is there, but normally when I smell that much of a dry note I expect some kind of fruit play with the yeast. Nothing bad, but nothing awesome.

Taste: Starts with caramel malt that seems to a mild bourbon note that turns to a mild dry earth end that oddly works. That dry hit that you find in steam beer is present, but it's very restrained by sweet malt leaving the beer with that touch of dry that leaves you wanting more.

Mouthfeel: Transistioning is good, as apart from a slight peak of that dry end it flows quite well. The carbonation helps out the entire beer although it does peter out around the three quarter mark. Aftertaste is a mild mix of caramel malt and that dry note, which I mentioned, makes you want to drink more.

Drinkability: Light bodied but with a solid amount of flavor despite that. Incredibly easy to get down and very hard to put down as that dry note really encourages guzzling. The is very much a beer for when it's hot as all heck.

Final Thoughts: A kentucky common is a style so uncommon that the site doesn't appear to list it. This came across as steam beer done right, as the dry note doesn't overwhelm the beer and the malt make a showing in what is a very easy to drink and much more flavorful alternative to lighter lager. This is for those who like light English Bitter but would rather it have a cleaner end. Thumbs up.

A very difficult beer to classify. I’ve never heard of Kentucky Common, but in the research I’ve done it seems to be a mix of California Common/ Belgian Brown Ale. From what I gather, it’s a historic beer style that not many breweries are producing these days. Anyhow, it has the appearance of a normal brown ale. The smell is non-existent. The taste however is excellent. It tastes like a watered down brown ale, but in a good way. Thin mouthfeel, low carbonation makes this a super beer to drink on a hot day. I can’t place the flavour that I am tasting but whatever it is I like it. A good showing for a new startup brewery
