Appearance: Poured with a single finger of head that retained very well and left some lace on the sides of the glass. The body is a crystal clear, but fairly pale yellow that boasts ample carbonation.
Smell: Crisp aromatic herbal hops which stand in front of a biscuit malt background. It didn't need warming to achieve potency and this beer seems to advertise that it will be a squeaky clean experience.
Taste: It does not disappoint, as we start with some mild, unsweetened shortbread biscuit malt before the herbal hops with some slight grassy touches come forward in a refreshing wave with the echo of seltzer water at the end. It's very crisp and clean, and done right, but very basic.
Mouthfeel: The carbonation is very sudsy, but is just aggressive enough as to give all the flavor notes a boost. Transitioning is very easy going but not to the point where I'd call it boring or sedate. The aftertaste is the herbal hop end which is mostly clean but can continue to build as you approach the end of the beer and nearly overstay its welcome.
Drinkability: Refreshing in extreme, as this is a beer you would want to grab on a summer's day or a summer evening to wind down. The beer is a bit gassy, as the carbonation is quite high but because it's so clean and has a very light body, it settled down well despite that fact.
Final Thoughts: I wish this beer had the distribution that Steamwhistle enjoys in Ontario. This is a very well done, light, crisp but interesting pilsner that'd love to have a 12 pack of during the summer and to keep in the fridge for my non-craft friends to enjoy. It's not a beer I'd go out of my way for, but is a beer I'd certainly stock up on if I was in the area.
