Appearance: Poured with just over a finger of head that did not lace or retain. The body is an opaque black, save when put up to the light, it shifts after so slightly to brown.
Smell: Smokey, as one should expect from a smoked oat porter. Maybe a bit of malt in the background. Fairly neutral woodzy smoke.
Taste: Smokiness permeates the beer but doesn't really kick into high gear near the end. Starts with well roasted malt that turns to a bit of a hickory note before a snap of smoke and non-descript hops take over.
Mouthfeel: Carbonation is a bit low, which is a bit of a disappointment, but the transitioning is good. Especially that dry smokey snap at the end that leaves that mix of smoke of hickory in the aftertaste.
Drinkability: Medium bodied making this a lot easier to drink than expected. The smokiness the subtract a bit from refreshing part of the beer, but this strikes me as something to be paired with food.
Final Thoughts: A solid offering, and I really do feel this was designed to be paired with meat. It's light enough so that this would work with a heavier meal. All around a solid offering.

Keep in mind I don’t enjoy smoked beers. Pours black with a beige head. The smell is too smokey for me. Same goes for the taste. I can tell it’s a nice porter underneath but the smoke overpowers it. I’d like to try this without the smoke
