This hazy pale ale was hopped exclusively with Hallertau Blanc hops, lending gentle notes of pineapple and white wine to a pillowy body. 23 IBU

473 mL can, Day 20 of Nita Beer's 2024 Advent Calendar; no canning date and served barely chilled.
Pours a foggy, translucent pale golden colour, crowned with two fingers of pillowy, soapy white head that lasts for five minutes or so. It leaves behind lovely cobwebs of lace as it's worn down to a sudsy, frothy cap and collar - if nothing else, this is a gorgeous pale ale. Fresh pineapple on the nose, with hints of grapefruit and wheaty malts, as well as a vinous quality. Off to a strong start.
The same can be said of the flavour profile, which features similarly prominent notes of pineapple and citrus. Maybe a hint of passion fruit, too, with a vinousness that is subsumed by coarse grains, oats and floral, dank, earthy hop bitterness on the back end. White wine & grapefruit pith dissipate into a dry-ish aftertaste. Medium in body, with lively carbonation that imparts a good, firm bite to this brew's smooth, somewhat soft mouthfeel. A well-constructed, very drinkable hazy pale ale that goes down the gullet with ease.
Final Grade: 3.97, a strong B+. Despite the strong visuals and respectable nose, I wasn't all that impressed with my first sip... but Cloudy Day totally turned that impression around over the course of the glass. It's got an intriguing hop profile that I ended up really digging. Hazy pale ales are frequently one-and-dones for me, but this is one that I would totally revisit, if given the chance. Recommended, especially if you live in the Ottawa area and can find it fresh.
