This is actually a pretty decent red ale. It's better than Rickards red. Not as good as smithwicks but it was tasty. Nice foamy feel. Really nice caramel toffee aftertaste. I feel like it has a rye after taste which I love and it doesn't feel heavy like 1000 islands Irish red or amber..
Overall a good beer.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From the Huron Church Rd. LCBO in nearby Windsor. Canned August 5/25. My second beer from the Huntsville, Ontario brewery, and for 2025. Enthusiastically admired by Sundae the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Feb 25 2025 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a deep, clear copper-bronze colour, taking on more of a brilliant ruby-red hue when illuminated. It's initially graced with one finger of tight, creamy, off white-tinted head that fizzles within ninety seconds, swiftly reduced to a thin collar and a patch of film. Decent lace deposition; looks normal enough so far. The aroma is entirely malt driven, comprised of caramel, toasted bread & grains; I'm also getting a hint of something fruity, like cherry or raspberry syrup.
No twists or surprises here: it's a standard issue amber ale. Malty flavours of caramel, toasted bread, grainy malts and dark fruits last for the entirety of the sip; fruitier on the back end, with caramelized sugars and toasted malts fading into a moderately sweet aftertaste that lasts for a second or two. Medium in body, with low carbonation that gently agitates the surface of the palate, resulting in a smooth, satisfying mouthfeel. I could probably drink a few of these in a row, at least in theory.
Final Grade: 3.53, a hard-earned B grade. Amber ales are a style that I appreciated early on in my beer geek career, but I haven't had much interest in them for at least a decade. In spite of that bias, I'll still try new ones that I come across, and so here we are: Canvas Ember is not a flawed amber, it's just a plain one that didn't do much for me. There's basically no hop presence whatsoever, making for a malty-sweet brew that comes off as unbalanced and rather boring. Forgettable, but I suppose it's worth a shot if you have an interest in this style.
