brewed for wepa, the new puerto rican spot over there, which is where we had this, a coconut cream hefeweizen, super cool idea for a beer, right on with this food, and without question the best beer ive had from twisted district so far, not even close. the pour had me a little nervous, really thick almost gloopy looking, it does have a nice creamy white head, thick and an inch high and almost nitro looking to me, but this is insanely dense beer with a chalky look, heavy even for an unfiltered wheat beer, but perhaps it actually has coconut cream blended in, so that fat could be adding to that. the aroma is great though, real coconut cream for sure makes it tropical right away, and with a banana note from the yeast it almost hits as a tropical smoothie or blended cocktail, light pineapple character perhaps from some hops, a sweet lemon note, and plenty of the earthy wheat malt in the mix still too, yum. creamy mouthfeel makes an instant impression, no doubt there is actual coconut cream in this, and the fatty richness adds something wonderful to the body, unexpected and maybe not for everyone, but its definitely for me. the coconut flavor dominates in a good way, nicely supported by the pale wheat, and with some other tropical tones from the yeast esters, less spicy and more fruity than most. green and yellow banana, mild sweetness. super full feeling, and without a ton of carbonation, it could be lightened and refined some, but its also kind of endearing in small doses, couldnt drink pint after pint of this even though i want to because the flavor rules. very clever beer overall, a perfect fit for this hip new restaurant, and a beer that gives me more hope for twisted district than i have had until now...
