Boerenerf has a good story and lots of dedication. Their story stretches back to when their hamlet commonly made gueuze and, then, when it didn't and, now, when it does again. For devotees of the style, this is a great story. While their website does not indicate lots of activity other than gueuze-making and releasing, they have room to expand their activities; like a taproom and a menu and, eventually, culinary events worthy of their brewing. For the future, I now give Boerenerf excellent Overall Hugs.
As for their Oude Gueuze, I haven't had enough of them recently to compare to the style's classics. But Boerenerf seems like it can brew up there with the classics. This Looks appetising, nice foam that stays active almost to the end of my sipping session. Smells also seem classic farmhouse. Tastes are balanced with the tart never making me pucker beyond recognition. Medium-mouthed. I will keep Boerenerf in mind as I start to dip back into this esoteric style.

surprised to see this rated so low, its wonderful, minimally acidic as these go, but of lovely quality and complexity, deserves better i think. 2023 batch or blend 1, green label different than what is pictured here, perhaps for export, i like the understated look of this, less best by time than a lot of lambic types, wonder why, there is some green glass character to this already. anyway, its fizzy once the cork is out and the beer is in the glass, but the head doesnt last even ten seconds, champagne-esque in that way, blonde to golden with a very light sandy sediment in the very bottom, otherwise clear and bright, very lively even without head retention, light to even thin looking. the nose is awesome, mature and woody, white wine and cut flowers, green table grapes, pears, apricot and butterscotch nuance in the wood, graphite and some bitterness, a bit of animal funk, burlap, paper, wheat bread, confectioners sugar, this is somewhat sweet, nice wood and funk, lemon but not tart really. the flavor is similar, maybe a bit more enlivened than the nose, expressive and funky while also being about as drinkable as any gueuze out there, vinous, fruity, nice grain support, very light in feel, huge bubbles popping all over the place, subtle green peppercorn, oxidation, dried mango, and cream soda. i think this is somewhat reserved overall, but i like it a lot, less polarizing than some but i certainly wouldnt call it entry level, and its another cool one from these guys. i wish the prices were more manageable so i could drink more of this stuff, but i get it, labor intensive beer to be sure. this warms up well, has a lot of personality, and was a real delight to drink this spring. would love to try other bottlings to compare...

Copenhagen 21/1 2024. 75 cl bottle with both cork and cap from Best of Beers web-shop. A little well-endowed beetle on the label.
Pours unclear - almost opaque - golden yellow with a mid-sized white head. Bubbly. Disappears after a few seconds leaving only meagre remnants behind.
Aroma is intense with a mild sweet fruity odor soon overpowered by a strong and prominent tart and sour scent. Sweet green grapes. Yeast and a touch of funk Tart goose berries, sharp sour white wine, citrus and vinegar.Sour cheese.
Medium strong carbonation. Thin. oily, lively and tingling texture.
Flavor is intense with a light sweetness followed by a strong sourness. Aftertaste is tart. Lingers for a while. Finish is dry.
Fine and intense Lambic.

Pours a cloudy, golden amber coloration with a small, fizzy head. Smells of doughy malt and fruity, slightly spicy esters, with notes of green apple, pear and apricot and pepper, as well as hints of wet hay, funk and oak. Taste is an excellent balance of doughy malt, fruity and spicy esters, with notes of tart green apple, sweet pear and apricot, acidic gooseberry, zesty citrus and lighter clove and white pepper, as well as some wet hay and a subtle, moldy, mushroomy funkiness and hints of musty oak. Finishes with a medium tartness and some fruity, slightly spicy esters, funk and oak lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
I was very curious to try this Gueuze from a totally new-to-me brewery and really enjoyed it a lot. It's perhaps a bit lighter and not quite as tart, funky and complex as other Gueuzes I've had, but makes up for that with some very expressive, fruity esters and great drinkability. It still has that funk and oak as well, but it's a bit more subtle, making this a great introduction to the style, that is rather well-balanced in its own way as well. Overall, this makes for a very enjoyable example of the style that is not that complex, but well-balanced, with a vibrant, zesty tartness, expressive esters and subtle notes of funk and oak.

Dirty blonde murky body with a full white head, sporadic lacing. Smell has plenty of barnyard funk, hay, and belgian yeast with oak, lacto, and sour/pithy citrus in the background. Taste is much the same only the citrus is lesser, replaced with pressed flower petals, funk is not as strong as it is in the nose. Feel leans a little wet on the style spectrum, yet very balanced with well intentioned notes of yeast, funk and sourness. Had a younger bottle, would be curious how this would age

Foggy straw yellow with a fuzzy white head clinging in uneven garter lacing.
A potently skunky cannabis and petrol nose gives way to some straw and barnyard as you acclimate, while taste is more subdued of light citruses, lactic acid, white oak, and mild funk.
An impressive effort for this new to me gueuze.
