From notes taken up north
Appearance: Dark brown, near porter color body with 1 finger of head. No lacing to speak of or retention.
Smell: Roasted nuts with a smokey note. Walnut, almond and maybe a touch of hazelnut. Warming brings out some a little bit of extra mild toffee malt. Potency is decent.
Taste: Toffee Malt with almonds to start that turns to walnut and then some non-descript bitter nut notes with and earthy hop finish. Definitely leaning into the nutty kind of brown ale as opposed to malty.
Mouthfeel: Carbonation is good, but a bit lackluster in the middle of the flavor profile. Transitioning is good, but mild as transitioning between nuts isn't exactly a adventurous journey. Aftertaste has a mild dry nut note that works and keeps you drinking.
Drinkability: Medium body, again with the mastery of the dry note. Settles down well, and while it's a bit too bitter for my palate, it's still solid. I think I'd have preferred more of a malt presence here.
Final Thoughts: A completely serviceable brown ale for those who like their brown's more nutty and porter like. I had it with a pulled pork sandwich and a garden salad that was quite good as a pairing.
