Pint consumed at the source. Described as a "New Zealand hoppy pilsner," so I'm guessing it's an aggressively hoppy take on the style, brewed with hops from the Southern Hemisphere.
Mostly clear golden amber color, with a good sized off-white head.
Massive hop blast to the nose! Big, citrusy, pungent hop aroma is what's available to the workers at my olfactory.
Big, melon-like, tropical fruit flavored take on a pils. The hops more or less muscle out any pilsner malt flavor.
Not as crisp as is standard for a normal pils, but this ain't no normal pils. Fairly clean finish, considering how massively fruity this is.
I had to list this as an "American Lager" because "New Zealand Hoppy Pilsner" is not an option on BA. Pilsner purists will perhaps not be into this. I love a good traditional pilsner, myself, but this was clearly branded as not one in the first place, so I'm not holding it's unusual nature against it. If you dig the kind of hop flavor I've described above in a lager, you will like this beer. I'd definitely hit it again.
