My first from Savage, so I went on their website and am met with some sophisticated marketing for a three year old. While they did spend 12 years brewing before they got a taproom of their own, they have thought carefully about their marketing niche of blending Southern California roots and Seattle suburb (HQ of Costco, no yet.) They push all the right buttons of community and have a future to grow... particularly if they keep pushing the lifestyle football collaboration (which is a big deal for most Americans, not so much for this one.) Anyhow... for all that, I still give them pretty good Overall Hugs.
As for 51, it is a decent Bavarian Pils particularly if you are a malt-head like me. 51 opens with a generous big-bubbly head that results in moderate lace. I Smell mostly malt. Tastes are well balanced, but also not distinctive to the style in which hops ultimately winning I the end (kick the field goal in the last minute.) Medium-mouthed to light.
