355 mL bottle from the LCBO; one of four included in Vol. 4 of their Re-Booted mix pack. Best before Aug 2018 and served well-chilled.
Pours a pale golden-blonde colour with some light haziness, as well as about one finger of frothy, foamy white head that weakens and fades within the next two minutes or so. A wide collar of soapy bubbles lasts on; looks decent enough to me. Nice, clean, subtle nose, just like I want from a German-style pale lager - grainy pale barley malts for the most part, accompanied by hints of bready, lightly biscuity sweetness and grassy hay.
Pleasant, straightforward and approachable flavours make this beer easy to appreciate, beer geek or not. It tastes of whole grain bread and light cereal sweetness at first, which is soon backed up by some leafy, grassy, slightly earthy hop bitterness that persists into the finish. Light-ish in body, with average carbonation levels that provide an appropriately crisp bite; the mouthfeel is ok, but a bit slicker than I prefer from my pilseners. It's hard to judge the drinkability of this particular style with such a small serving, but I'd say it's adequately easy to slosh back, and enjoyable enough to do so.
Final Grade: 3.79, a B+. Wellington's #Lager Dave Premium Pils is one of the best pale lagers I've had from these guys to date, and I'd say it's also on par with most of the better lagers that are imported here from Germany... reminds me of Hacker-Pschorr Münchner Gold for some reason (a beer I like, but haven't had in a while). Maybe it's the gold label. I'd buy it again.
