an amber saison with a little bit of rye malt, i was excited to see this on the menu but almost immediately a little let down by it. nothing interesting at all from the yeast, which is what i came here for? nothing odd about the pitch, if you will! its safe and even kind of bland there, but the malt bill is full and layered and the beer is professionally made, even if it lacks where it should pop, i cant hate on it because the quality is there. reddish copper color, short head, not real pretty with some haze in it, and the nose is like a muted french yeast strain on top of a day old loaf of bread, the rye not really appreciable there and the sweetness covering it, although its not objectively sugary either. the flavor shows just a bit of an earthy grain element, but seems sort of extracty and fast, i want slow saison, its a vibe not an ingredient, and its missing here without question. some lingering esters on the swallow, some weirdness too, but not the kind i came looking for, and in the end, i wanted more from the stuff they called saison at this place, not because they were bad, but because the name promises a lot more in these styles than the beers delivered. weird that their hoppy stuff stole the show, but it did...
